With the 205 now fully engine-less for the moment it's time to get several jobs done. Below is a progress and rebuild diary that will be updated as and when.

2nd November 2006 - After trying to decide which MoTeC ECU to go for I've ended up with the entry level M4, although it's only entry level it does everything the car requires, and it was an M48 (same as the M4 except 8 injector drivers) that I had mapped up with the throttle bodies so that map can go straight onto this M4 as a base map so it should at least run OK from the off.

28th October 2006 - Slow progress at the moment as all I can do is keep nagging Curtis @ PowerStation to crack on with the wiring on the car. Pleased to say the loom is almost complete and ready to be clipped into the car. Maybe, just maybe it will get fitted over the next few days... we shall have to wait and see I guess!

14th October 2006 - Not a great deal left to do on the car (for me) but spent this Saturday doing a few small jobs. First was fitting some Dowty Washers to the dry sump tank to stop it leaking (oops!) and the breather pipe which has been run to outside via. a handy grommet in the rear wheel arch.

With the issue of the Oil Filter Head having the in/out the wrong way around I ordered up a replacement from Pace and fitted that, sorting out the oil flow issues. This filter head I had a thread tapped for an oil temp gauge, which will be added later.

Then it was just the throttle cable, which I mullered and will be ordering a new one, and the ignition leads. These are cut down Calibra V6 leads and are OK but I would like to get some leads made up properly (and in red) to they sit neater, but it's not really essential so that's a job for later. Now it really is JUST the wiring, OK I've not fitted the seats/harnesses but that's a 10 minute job really so...

7th October 2006 - Spent the day with the car at PowerStation and finished off lots fo little things. Fuel lines are all connected and clipped down neatly, really pleased with how the 'bridges' have worked over the rear seat area.

Got hold of an oil pressure gauge from Merlin Motorsport so plumbed that into the standard block takeoff with an adaptor, is only a cheap and chearful gauge for now but the plans are for something far greater in future!

Moving onto a ramp we then bled the brakes with the use of a smart little machine that 'pushes' the fluid around the system and is excellent at getting rid of any air locks. Worked really well and I'll check them again after a few miles just to make sure everything is good, but essentially no leaks so that's nice!

Last job of the day was to crank the engine to get pressure up, all this required was an earth and positive on the starter. We did have a few teething issues but essentially the engine turned over fine and eventually pressure was reached, one we'd swapped the flow through the oil filter!

4th October 2006 - Now the car is at PowerStation the temptation to work on it in the day is too great... so today I finished off the water pipes, filled it with coolant (not a strong mix right now, incase it leaks everywhere!), fabricated a battery clamp, fabricated fuel pipe supports and got Curtis to start on the engine loom. Loom won't take much longer as it's really very simple when you strip most things out of it!

3rd October 2006 - With the oil now in the car it was time to bring it to PowerStation (where my offices are) to finish up the last few things and let Curtis sort out the engine loom and other bits of wiring, I hope it keeps moving forward as the past track record of getting anything on my car done at PowerStation isn't great (see Jenvey Install!)

2nd October 2006 - Fitted the Pace dry sump pump, connected all the oil hoses and tightened them down. Priming instructions mean the feed to the block is left off while you hand turn the pump until oil starts coming out, then the pipe is connected and the engine turned over (but not fired). I've done everything up to the point of turning the engine over...

Also found a solution to the water pipe routing with the use of a pipe I no longer needed, I've since had a small amendment made to the header tank and it just needs fitting and filling with coolant. Not much to go now, pretty much the wiring then fit up the fuel pipes and see what happens!

30th September 2006 - First job was to sort out the lower radiator hose, as the rad had been lowered the Samco hose that was on there originally didn't fit, it COULD have fitted but then the metal pipe was sitting on the dry sump pulley! So, with a length of VulcoFlex from Merlin a new lower hoses was sorted out, and it fits perfectly now!

The other main job of the day was to get the fuel lines in. Chris and Andy came over to help on this again and did a great job! It's a bit 'pipey' in the back of the car now but it needs to be done so we're making the best of it (yet to be tidied further). A nice touch is being able to re-use the standard heater pipe holes in the bulkhead for the fuel feed and return.

Also fitted the oil cooler in place, now it just needs the dry sump pump fitted and the pipes bolted up and the oil can go in!

24th September 2006 - With the goal of getting the fuel lines in we failed miserably! Although we didn't have any 'P' clips to hold the hose down we were undecided the best way to run the hose through the car so we moved on. Oil lines are now essentially in and are awaiting the rest of the engine bits before being attached properly and filled with oil. I'm not happy with the oil cooler mount yet so that needs a little work first.

23rd September 2006 - Well with the help of Chris & Andy we spent all day getting the car back together and installing new items. The first issue we came across was the alternator, I hadn't put the top bolt in the engine mount before fitting the engine! This essentially meant supporting the engine while we removed the mount, fitted the bolt, and refitted the mount. Not the end of the world but not ideal either.

The main job of the day was fitting all the brake lines, which I'm really pleased with as it went really well. There were also a load of other small jobs done but it still left the water/fuel/oil lines & fluids...

22nd September 2006 - Just had a quick look at how the dry sump tank and header tank look... header tank needs a few little tweaks to sit how I want it but essentially it's good! Also fitted the starter motor and checked out the clips for the fuel pump and filter. The braided fuel hose also arrived today, 10m of the stuff!

21th September 2006 - In getting everything ready for the weekend I managed to get around to cleaning and painting the starter motor and alternator. Not 100% sure on the black alternator but it's done now and is hidden under a load of stuff in the car anyhow.

Also took delivery today of the new header tank and the adapted Dry Sump Tank complete with breather tank from Forge Motorsport, many thanks to them for their work!

20th September 2006 - Big thanks to James for letting me borrow an Mi16 head so that we could straighten out the 4-2-1 manifold, otherwise it was only fit for the scrap heap! Anyhow, manifold sorted and fitting fine so I finished off wrapping the whole thing, although it does make the manifold rust it's amazing how much heat it keeps in the system so I feel is worth it.

19th September 2006 - Popped to Merlin Motorsport today and got all the brake pipes, Goodridge 200 series hose and fittings. Man the stuff is nice, and not 'that' expensive considering this is ALL the brakes lines in the car, so it's now fully braided throughout!

17th September 2006 - Made some serious progress on getting the car back together this weekend, despite a HUGE setback with the manifold. Engine is in, driveshafts are in, brakes are on, gearbox is full of oil, clutch is connected and gear rods fitted... doesn't sound like much but they are all things that get the car back together and working!

We also measured up for all the brake pipes to be made up at Merlin Motorsport, and looked at where to fit the petrol swirl pot, pump and filter. A new header tanks and the dry sump tank should be with me the end of the week so next weekend will be another one full of getting the car back together!

12th September 2006 - With the car back home Chris came over and we pulled the engine back out. Nice and easy and took about 10 minutes! So this is it, now I'm onto the final bits of painting, got to measure up the brake pipes while the engine it out too, then we're going to fit the engine for the last time on the weekend, at last!

11th September 2006 - Being a bit cheeky Adam has been a star and painted the interior of the car today... saves me a fairly long job and gets something else ticked off the 'to do' list. It also means all the interior stuff can go straight back in ASAP.

6th September 2006 - Finally found the time to take the car down to Merlin Motorsport @ Castle Combe to have the oil pipes made up. Wanted to take the car on the trailer so I could double/triple check the pipe runs were OK as we're talking in excess of £300 worth of pipe... everything is spot on and it's possibly the best looking part of the install now!

So it's all steam ahead to pull the engine out this weekend and then prepare for the final install...

30th August 2006 - Finished off fitting the fire extinguisher with only the acutal pipes needing to be put in, but that's for when the interior has been painted again. Also fabricated a simple bracket for the brake bias valve thanks to some help from the 205GTiDrivers forum. Tidied up the wiring a little for when I take the car down to Merlin Motorsport for the pipework so it doesn't get in the way. Hope to go there in the next few days.

29th August 2006 - Started fitting the fire extinguisher in the car, drilling yet more holes through the bodywork! Only issue is the tank is quite long so won't fit across the car, it's going to have to go down the transmission tunnel on the passenger side... poor passenger isn't going to get much leg room!

The fire nozzles are fitted at opposite corners of the engine bay, giving a wide spread, while one of the 2 release handles will be fitted in the scuttle panel... lets hope I never have to use it!

28th August 2006 - Made lots of progress over the past few weeks, oil cooler is here and fitted (though not fully), radiator is mounted properly (though need to replace screws with rivets!) and the oil filter bracket has been fabricated.

With all that I've now finished the dry sump pipe runs and will be off to Merlin Motorsport this week to get the pipes made up, along with the brake pipes and fuel lines. Then it's full steam ahead for the strip down, clean up and final build!

12th August 2006 - A few jobs got done over the weekend, first was to re-position the other 205 though we managed to crash it into the track car somehow... pretty impressive I thought considering neither of them run!

So with that moved the first job was lowering the radiator. Using a bracket bought from B&Q it worked really well, I just have to enlarge the holes so I can fit the OEM rubbers to keep it from vibrating too much.

With that done it was onto the Dry Sump pipe run... something I wasn't looking forward to but it actually worked out OK! Need to get an oil cooler so I can finish off the lengths to that, then it's off to Merlin Motorsport to get the Goodridge 200 series hoses made up. I'm really pleased with where the remote oil filter housing is going to fit, will have a proper bracket fabricated (wooden template in pictures) and it should work a treat there.

10th August 2006 - Borrowed some hole cutters from PowerStation and se about cutting some holes in the bulkhead for the dry sump pipes. Should have done a test drill on a piece of scrap metal first cause I've ended up with a whole a little too large! Nevermind, I'll just use a bigger grommet :)

Also started to look at how I'm going to work out the dry sump pipe run. Merlin Motorsport who are supplying the Goodridge hose suggest using hosepipe to work out the pipe run lengths so they can then swage up the fittings properly in their shop. Goal for the weekend is to have the dry sump tank fitted and the pipe runs worked out... we shall see if that happens!

7th August 2006 - Curtis from PowerStation popped over and helped tidy up the main wiring loom in the car, removing anything that I would no longer need. As I still want to drive the car on the road and therefore have an MoT most things were left but we still took out a fair amount of wires!

I also started looking at how the rest of the kit is going to fit back in, got a new aluminium rad that needs to be fitted properly this time (i.e. no cable tie!) and for now I'll keep the standard radiator cowling and fit a second fan to it running on another switch so it can be used if/when needed.
